How to Make Spicy Turmeric Popcorn

As kids we were all fascinated to see and eat soft and fluffy popcorns from the street vendors, at the movies, a festival ground. Well they were everywhere. And wondered how they make it...they were so tasty and spicy.

Even as adults we still love to have popcorns. What if we could easily make it at home? For our kids.... They will love it. Besides, it’s always advised to prepare these things at home rather than buying them. It would be safe and healthy.

Crunchy popcorn is the best snack while watching movies or sports.

Making popcorn in a Kadai is a very simple task and takes less than five minutes which makes it a perfect snack when you have unexpected guests.

How to Make Spicy Turmeric Popcorn

Corn kernels 2 tb sp
Coconut oil ½ tbsp
Turmeric Powder ½ tea sp
Salt Enough to taste
Water ¼ cup
Pepper powder ½ tsp
Chilli Powder ½ tea sp
Asafoetida Powder ¼ tea sp


Stage 1

Wash and soak the Corn kernels for 3 minutes in water .

Stage 2

Dry the Corn kernels using a tissue paper.

Stage 3

Heat a frying pan, pour and heat coconut oil. To this add dried corn kernels, turmeric powder, Salt, Red Chilli powder, pepper powder and Asafoetida Powder. Mix them so that the corn kernels are evenly spiced

Stage 4

Close the kadai with its lid and heat it in medium flame. When one or two kernels pop, turn the flame low as to avoid burning the kernels.

Stage 5

While the kernels are popping, gently shake the kadai by moving it back and forth over the burner.

Once it is completed turn off the flame and transfer the popcorn to a serving bowl immediately.

Serve hot
